What Does UIA Do

The Utah Intercollegiate General Session commences the third weekend of March at the Utah State Capitol. This session is modeled after the actual state legislative session with representatives and legislators from each institution in the State of Utah. A Utah Student Association Convention is held each October to plan for the upcoming legislative session where the top three UIA resolutions will be presented.

Each institution is responsible for researching and drafting three resolutions to present in the House of Representatives and Senate respectively. These resolutions reflect concerns and interests of the 100,000 plus students in the State of Utah. Through individual presentations and heavy lobbying by institutions, students try to pass resolutions through the House and the Senate.

The session concludes in a joint session between the House and the Senate where student legislators have the opportunity to vote on the top three resolutions. These top three then become part of extensive lobbying by the Utah Student Association for the next State legislative session.
