Base Funding For
Technology

A RESOLUTION TO THE UTAH INTERCOLLEGIATE ASSEMBLY AND THE UTAH STATE LEGISLATURE
MANDATING THAT THE STATE MATCH STUDENT FEE MONEY FOR TECHNOLOGY, TO IMPROVE TECHNOLOGY AT
ALL STATE INSTITUTIONS, THROUGH A BASE GRANT EACH YEAR.
WHEREAS, today technology effects every college student, and the need
for upgrades and availability of technology increases as enrollment increases, and;
WHEREAS, computers and computer software now in use, will become
obsolete in a few years, and upgrades are necessary every four years, and;
WHEREAS, many institutions now use computers and software that are
outdated, and;
WHEREAS, this current technology would enhance the learning
environment for all students, and better prepare students to enter the workforce, and;
WHEREAS, universities and colleges are currently not guaranteed money
that is earmarked for technology, and
WHEREAS, universities and colleges in the State of Utah currently use
a portion of student fees to pay for technology upgrades, but this revenue is not enough
to meet the needs of the institution.
THEREFORE, LET IT BE RESOLVED by the Utah Intercollegiate Assembly
mandating that the state match student fee money for technology to improve technology at
all state institutions through a base grant each year.
