Powell was a delegate from UVSC in 1998. Although his first year, he became a recognized by his colleagues in the Senate that this was no ordinary guy. "The first time I met him it was evident that he had and educated opinion. He knew his parliamentary procedure so well that his issues were presented with clarity," Ryan Secrist said.

Powell has always admired the get-it-done leadership style of President John F. Kennedy and allows this past president’s example to motivate him in present situations. "I’ve always admired him, he did a lot of great things," Powell added.

As President of the Senate, Powell said he is seeking to pass resolutions and see them through to the actual legislature where they have a chance of becoming law.

His favorite ice cream is strawberry. His favorite pastime is wakeboarding.
